Company sport is organised by companies and institutions. Pre-eminently, it is directed at the employees. The purpose is to create an offset to work activities through regular sporty activities. Consequently, not the character of competitions is in the fore but preventative health measures and the social togetherness. Company sports clubs serve as the organisation, whose interests are bundled via associations. The possibilities reach from free-time activities like bowling, skat, chess to varying kinds of sports like football, athletics, mountain biking, Nordic walking or inline skating. Health sports are also offered, which deal with relaxation techniques, exercise therapy and improve overall fitness. Company sport usually takes place outside working hours.
The company's objective is to maintain its employee's level of performance, reduce stress and in doing so, contributing towards employment protection in a preventative way. At the same time, mutual sports activities have positive effects on the company culture, working atmosphere and employee satisfaction.
Generally, company sport is covered by statutory accident insurance. Insurance covers the actual sports activities as well as travelling between the sports facilities and home. However, in the case of s sporting event of a competitive nature, there is no insurance cover.
