Employee Satisfaction – a Factor of Success

Definition, Explanation Tips, Checklist

Definition, Explanation

One thing is for sure: Employees who state to be more satisfied show a higher working motivation, as shown in attitude surveys. With this background, even more frightening are the employee satisfaction studies like the ones of the opinion research center Gallup Organization, assessing that more than 80 per cent of all workers feel only a low emotional attachment to their company. This means in consequence that they innerly “cancel”, get sick more often, do not or only little get involved with the job and do not longer contribute any ideas. The macroeconomic damage of this amounts to billions of Euros.

Reasons for dissatisfaction are various. One side are the nature of employee-executives-relationships, general working conditions and personal situations like unfulfilled income wishes or work-life-balance. More and more employers are aware of this and endeavour to foster their employees and encourage them to create a positive working athmosphere and to have their tasks vary. In the end, employee satisfaction also affects their willingness to change jobs and determines the rate of staff churn.

Tips, Checklist

  • Be conscious of the importance and necessity of your work. Reflect on the bright side of your job
  • Share frustration with people you trust, and thus vent your wrath
  • Analyse why you are discontent. Share the insight with others, have the factors changed or have them viewed from a different angle (e.g. good experience, learning effect etc)
  • Consciously organize your every day work. Thus you will gain control and prevent stress that would make you unhappy
  • Move, stand up, stretch
  • Tidy up your workplace such that you get a good overview
  • Set a good example concerning the working climate. Act based on the principle: treat others like you’d want to be treated yourself
  • Stand out by working motivated and dedicated. When others let their heads hang low, it is an opportunity for you to distinguish yourself and make use of it for your career
