Working start

At some point in life, everyone starts to work. There are different options: First job experience can be gained in typical students' jobs like doing a paper round, being a working student or a student assistant at one's university, or in an internship. Another way is to serve an apprenticeship in a company or an institution, or to get employed right after school.

Some people find ways to become independent businessmen by either founding their own company or taking over an existing one.

• Become aware of your desires, abilities, propensities and natural limiting conditions. A good way to get this overview is a personality analysis
• Define your goals or write yourself a personal business plan
• Start purposefully looking for jobs, also involving professional support
• When applying, mind the requirements and the possible steps on the way, from the unsolicited application to the interview and an assessment centre
• Someone who decides to run an independent business, should also well define the goals. That is both the personal goals, but also the ones of the company which can be described with a business plan
• Keep in mind: Nothing is final-irrevocable. Your goals, framework conditions and interests can change eventually, and make another, new kind of start into business advisable
